The presence of another living soul in the brownstone. Another patient to pull apart and sew together. Her anger, his shame. Their mental waltz, the dance of observation. In sync, in time, his push and her pull. Going home, calling it 'home', saying okay. Inches of space getting smaller and smaller. They both have less nightmares now, don't wake up in cold sweats. Sometimes he takes her hand while they walk through traffic, sometimes she lets him. He's beginning to think he deserves her, she's beginning to think she's deserving. Still, they tip-toe, still they go around and around without landing on a conclusion, a clear end to their case.

She’s covered in blood. She can taste it still, rimming her lips and sitting like an old friend made new again on the back of her tongue. Her ruined dress is soaked in it and she thinks, idly, the stains will never come out, not now. They’ve already set., 1,660 words, part 1/?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo | Hysterical Strength | a Lisbeth Salander mix.
There's blood on her fists. Dirt in the knees of her leather, and sweat burning her eyes. The fucker turns to a blur in front of her eyes, running away. Running away from the other worldly little girl, who was born in the cracks and has been fighting from her first breath. She ignores the stares of the strangers who didn't help, who never do and never will. Her muscles yell at her as she stands up from the ground but she quickly tells them to shut the fuck up.

Later, she'll clean and bandage her own cuts. She'll get into bed and fall asleep into dreams; the one and only place she allows her thoughts and fears to run wild. When the morning comes, as always, she wakes with a start.
(Put together with the first two books and new film in mind, with hints of Lisbeth/Blomkvist but there's no specific spoilers.)
